Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the CampusEx website and marketplace at campus-ex.com ("Service") operated by CampusEx ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
To use CampusEx you must (a) be enrolled at or employed by a campus community supported by CampusEx, (b) have a valid email address issued by that campus, and (c) be 18 years of age or older. By creating an account you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.
Access is granted on an invitation or campus-approval basis. We reserve the right to deny or revoke access to any campus or individual at our sole discretion.
2. Accounts
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Keep your sign-in codes confidential. You may not create accounts on behalf of others or use automated means to create accounts. You may hold only one account.
3. The Marketplace
CampusEx is a peer-to-peer classifieds marketplace. We do not buy, sell, or hold any items ourselves. Transactions are between buyers and sellers directly. We do not process payments — all payment arrangements are made between the parties involved.
4. Permitted Use
You may use CampusEx to:
- List physical items you own and wish to sell or give away within your campus community
- Browse and contact sellers about their listings
- Coordinate in-person exchanges on or near campus
- Save listings you are interested in
5. Prohibited Use
You may not use CampusEx to:
- List or sell illegal items, including but not limited to controlled substances, weapons, counterfeit goods, or stolen property
- List items that are prohibited by your campus community guidelines or applicable law
- Harass, threaten, or harm other users
- Post misleading, false, or fraudulent listings
- Spam or send unsolicited commercial messages through the platform
- Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with any security features of the Service
- Use the Service to collect information about other users without their consent
- Access the Service through automated means (bots, scrapers) without our written permission
Violating these prohibitions may result in immediate account suspension or termination.
6. User Content
You retain ownership of the content you post (listings, photos, messages). By posting content you grant CampusEx a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display and distribute that content within the Service for the purpose of operating the marketplace.
You are solely responsible for the accuracy and legality of your listings and messages. CampusEx reserves the right (but has no obligation) to remove content that violates these Terms or that we determine, in our sole discretion, is harmful to the community.
7. In-Person Transactions
CampusEx facilitates connections between buyers and sellers but is not a party to any transaction. All exchanges happen in person between users. We strongly recommend:
- Meeting in a public, well-lit area on campus
- Inspecting items before completing a transaction
- Using cash or trusted peer-to-peer payment apps
- Bringing a friend if you are unfamiliar with the other party
CampusEx is not responsible for the quality, safety, legality, or delivery of items listed, the accuracy of listings, or the ability of sellers to sell or buyers to buy items.
8. Reporting and Moderation
If you encounter content or behavior that violates these Terms, use the in-app reporting feature or contact us at support@campus-ex.com. We review reports and may remove content, suspend, or permanently ban accounts that violate these Terms.
9. Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time from your account settings or by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you violate these Terms, your campus email becomes invalid, or we determine that your use of the Service poses a risk to other users or the platform.
Upon termination your listings will be removed. Content shared in conversations may remain visible to the other party.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or harmful components.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CampusEx and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, goodwill, or property, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service or any transaction conducted through the Service.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CampusEx and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts located in Rock Island County, Illinois.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify active users of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
