CampusEx ("we," "us," or "our") operates the campus-ex.com website and marketplace. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using CampusEx you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. To create an account you provide your campus email address. We use this to verify you are a member of an approved campus community. We do not collect your name, phone number, or payment information.
Listings and messages. When you create a listing you provide a title, description, price, category, condition, and optional photos. When you send messages through the in-app messaging system those messages are stored in our database to deliver them to the other party.
Profile information. You may optionally provide a display name, profile photo, and preferred meeting location on campus.
Usage data. We use Vercel Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to collect aggregated, anonymized data about page views and general usage patterns. This data does not identify you personally and is not linked to your account.
Technical data. Like most web services, our servers and hosting provider may log standard technical information such as IP addresses, browser type, and request timestamps for security and debugging purposes. These logs are not used for marketing.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account
- To display your listings to other verified campus users
- To deliver in-app messages between buyers and sellers
- To send transactional emails (e.g., sign-in verification codes, message notifications) via our email provider
- To enforce our Terms of Service and keep the community safe (e.g., reviewing reported content)
- To improve the platform using aggregated, anonymized analytics data
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. How We Share Your Information
Other users. Your display name, profile photo, and listings are visible to other verified CampusEx users on the same campus. Your email address is never displayed publicly or shared with other users.
Service providers. We share data with trusted third parties that help us operate the platform:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (supabase.com)
- Vercel — website hosting and anonymous analytics (vercel.com)
These providers are contractually required to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.
Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of CampusEx, its users, or the public.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account data and listings for as long as your account is active. Messages are retained to support conversation history between buyers and sellers. If you delete your account we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
5. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, secure authentication via one-time codes, and row-level security on our database so users can only access their own data. No system is 100% secure, so we encourage you to use your campus email only for CampusEx sign-in.
6. Children's Privacy
CampusEx is intended for college students aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at support@campus-ex.com.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You may access, update, or delete your profile information at any time through your account settings. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, email us at support@campus-ex.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
8. Cookies and Local Storage
CampusEx uses browser local storage to remember your theme preference (light or dark mode). This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. We use session cookies required for authentication. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify active users of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of CampusEx after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
